It WAS a great company to work for - Technical Sales Associate III Yahoo Employee Review

Pros

I worked at Yahoo during Marissa Mayer's era. I worked in the Global Ad Creative Technology Organization. The team sat in between the engineers, and our team was responsible for the daily operations.

Cons

It was great until Verizon acquired Yahoo, and now, Verizon sold off Yahoo and AOL to a private equity firm. The management and team got gutted from the acquisition and tons of people were laid off. Ultimately, Verizon's media ventures - formerly called Oath - failed to compete with Google and Facebook, and the sale allowed Verizon to focus on it's core telecom growth. The Global Ad Creative Technology Organization is a former shell of itself.

Pros

Relatively easy to get things done for a company with such a long history. Certainly not "start up" like, but processes like resource allocation have less overhead than working at a company like Google. Pay was pretty good for the midwest. I hear they are currently pretty open to remote work. It's also not the hardest place to work.

Cons

Opportunities are limited in software engineering. Since Apollo took over, SE was viewed mostly under the lens of "what is the least we can invest here to get the job done". There used to be a really good office in Champaign with lots of very talented software engineers put together. That's gone now.
