Pros

First would like to point out that I enjoyed my job here at Vertex but had to resigned due to various reasons below. Competitive salary, Work from home are the only positives with the company.

Cons

Despite the company's public emphasis on diversity, inclusion, and internal promotion from within, it appears that my manager may not have received the memo. Favoritism and nepotism seem prevalent, with contractors receiving preferential treatment over full-time employees. They are hired and promoted ahead of long-standing Vertex employees, even having the privilege of choosing their work shifts before more experienced full-time employees. Despite management offering apologies and assurances of improvement, promises often go unfulfilled. It's extremely important to exercise caution when providing feedback through company surveys, as there may be potential for retaliation from managers when expressing concerns about direct report managers, supervisors or even directors. There seems to be an armchair manager advancing in the Vertex corporate hierarchy at the expense of colleagues, subordinates, and the overall team, displaying typical corporate power-trip behavior while moving up the ranks faster then usual at this company. This does make you wonder how is this possible? hummm?

Pros

Strong talent despite smaller size. Smart, humble teammates who raise the bar and many areas have leaders whom believe in the power of mentorship. Solid benefits and flexibility (remote, hybrid, no meeting Friday, and respect for work life boundaries).

Cons

Compensation lags market in some roles. Growing pains around cross-functional processes and prioritization can shift quickly, creating churn.

Pros

The people were all great and a pleasure to work with. The pay and benefits were generous. And many people in the company work there for life.

Cons

The company doesn't always foster cross-departmental cooperation and has made decisions that seeded further division between the development and product teams. They've also made restructuring choices that hurt more than they helped - e.g., eliminating the Product Owner position in favor of appointing developers to serve in the role, but with minimal training and support or encouragement for Product Management to fill the gap (and actually discouraged such efforts).
