Pros
cool campus. most of the individuals I worked with are friendly and skilled. the "just do it" attitude seems elite at first until the natural consequences and patterns emerge.
Cons
oh wow. where to start. this list is not comprehensive...
- At every level of business Nike dictates the terms in its favor in inhumane / unethical ways.
- it consumes talent with expectations of intense work ethic and brand loyalty while actively giving the opposite in return. The people who are expected to give Nike their all live in constant fear of layoffs, the exhaustion of being stuck for many months in legacy support purgatory for orphaned products from previous re-orgs, unclear leadership / ownership / org charts where you don't know who actually decides your priorities.
- no scrum masters any more, no protection of focus or priorities or momentum. pulled in any direction by any stakeholder who wants attention.
- constant re-orgs create a drive to be relevant while also creating a total blindness to work and products that are already in place or are being worked on by other teams. This means that the superficial slashes to the budget by laying people off increases redundancy, tech debt and waste. And when people discover that another team is doing the same thing as them, the tendency is to fiercely protect one's own version to cling to a sense of relevance and job security. This is an obstacle to teamwork, momentum, and single sources of truth.
- furlough. so much furlough.
