Pros
breakthrough changed my life. the 2-week orientation appropriately set the scene for what was to come for the summer. it will definitely make-or-break your curiosity to become an educator since it was a very demanding job. luckily, for me, it solidified the fact that this is something I want to continue and am truly passionate about. breakthrough game me a lot of freedom to teach in my personal style even though I was given a pre-written curriculum. my IC was invaluable towards my experience-- the implementation of an IC to mentor fellows throughout the summer was my favorite part of the program.
Cons
organization of daily responsibilities and activities was fairly messy. sometimes, we didnt know what to do and fellows carried a lot of the weight in picking up the pieces of the administration. fun-fridays were very poorly organized even though the intention was good. no cons at all in terms of the program itself and what it stands for, simply just some nitty-gritty things that can easily be fixed for future summers (except for the very low pay: $2,500 stipend. hopefully this can be raised but that is incumbent upon outside factors).
