Pros

Zero, Zilch, Nada, NOTHING. Did I hit 20 word minimum?

Cons

The Background Investigator job is a dead end, horrible job. I curse the day I ever accepted the position and I'm so glad I don't have work as an administrative assistant --- oh I mean background investigator anymore. Where to start? First, you are an hourly employee, but you are expected to work off the clock to complete work or to meet unrealistic stats. This job is nothing but a factory job, except with a factory job a person can clock in and out and get PAID for the hours they work. To think that OPM is considered the HR arm of the U.S. Government ... and contract workers are worked like they are ...makes my skin crawl and also a little sad. But why am I suprised, after the largest security breach in US history, OPM is considered the arm pit of the U.S. government. Thanks to them, everytime I would read the privacy act I would get a ... doesn't matter anyway China already has all my information. You carry around a USELESS badge that allows you NO access to any buildings, etc, but if you loose it, you have to pay $2000 to get it replaced. Ha! Also, I was LIED to about yearly salary when hired - they can spin it anyway they like - but salary ended up about $8,000 less than quoted. You could never get away with that on the private side. Oh, the entire background investigation process is a JOKE. The majority of people can't fill out the basic paper work, so you get the pleasure of doing it for them. The customer was always changing requirements for the process- here is a tip - instead of making useless changes why don't you modify the SF86 and SF85 questionnaires? No, they want you to fill out other's paperwork so that person can get a security clearance, but guess what, you DON'T have ONE. One last thing, does ANYONE ever read the reviews? I would be embarrassed to read the reviews left by background investigators - especially Keypoint's reviews. If you ever want a good laugh... or cry... grab some popcorn and read the reviews by Keypoint employees. Really not suprised, this is the same agency that was so lax in their oversight, USIS took them to the cleaners. The only reason they dropped USIS was b/c they would never get any peace. Some rep from agency testified in hearing or was quoted in news as saying he didn't even know how BI on contract side works. This process is a TOTAL JOKE!

Pros

If you like having no life and being overworked, then this place is for you.

Cons

Unrealistic stat expectations for FI's. Way too much work assigned to realistically do in a 40 hour work week. No time is given for non production time, you will drive all over town in traffic and it will all be counted against you and your stats. Technology is absolutely archaic and prehistoric...expect to spend hours doing admin work because of the horrible technology (websites and programs). Spend extra time doing interviews because they do not have approved forms for source interviews...you have to write everything out. Submitting expenses and daily manifests is like rocket science, even just recording hours in Deltek is ridiculous. Dental is expensive, no floating holidays and you have to use a personal computer for everything else outside of PIPS/FWS. Nothing like having to keep going back and forth to 2 computers because the CACI issued computer is so limited with what it can do. Management is absolutely a joke, enough said on that. Definitely need to improve in the Investigations area and give their employees more to work with because they are losing so much work from their FI's because they can't give them the resources and tools needed to be successful. It was such a bad experience I could not even stay with them for more than 4 months. I refuse to work for a company that has very substandard tools and resources for their employees.

Pros

Work from home: This is nice with kids and a family, except you don't always work from home. It should be more like work from car. Still not bad and it is worthwhile of a pro. "Flexible" schedule: They will tout that your schedule is flexible as a Field Investigator. Really, it isn't. Your schedule is dependent upon the schedule of others. Subject can only meet you at 4:00am on his way to work. Guess what, you are going! Source can only meet you at 6:30 on her way home from work, call your spouse and get ready to eat cold dinner. That said, This is more of a fault of the job itself and not one of CACI so it is still worthy of Pro. You do have more flexibly over the planning of your work week than most jobs. Work four 10's one week and have a long weekend? Sure. Want to play golf on Wednesday afternoons... you got it! As long as you get your *cough* 40 *cough* hours in you are fine. (more on that in con) Benefits: Healthcare benefits are outstanding. However, they have been slowly decreasing in awesomeness over time so we will see how long this remains in the Pro category. It deserves to be said at this point that 2 of my 3 pros are pros of the JOB not of CACI.

Cons

Unrealistic production standards: Without getting into a lot of technical mumbo jumbo that someone on the outside looking in would not understand just know that the production standards are 17% higher than comparable positions from 2 years ago. I can only speculate why the production is higher even though there have been no significant changes to the job in this time. These standards force you to do one of two things. One, miss production goals. This will result in the loss of your position, or Two, work off the clock. I mean work *cough* 40 *cough* hours per week. This is illegal and could result in the loss of your position. Or it would if they cared about it. As long as you are not blatant about it, they will not care. Low pay: I have worked for 2 other contractors performing this same job. With company A: I was paid a little over $46.00 per required unit per week. Company B: $52.00 per required unit per week. CACI: $36.00, per required unit, per week. This illustrates the unrealistic standards of the company as well as the lack of compensation FOR those unrealistic standards. Poor upper level management: A lot of people who have never worked in this field who are making BAD choices. You can tell they are of the "Customer is ALWAYS right mindset", however this should not be the case. The customer in this case is a specific US Government agency. This agency requires it's contractors to comply with certain instructions. No issue there right? Except when you keep giving into these requests without a little push back, they will require more and more and more. Does the rate of the contract go up? NO. Who is blamed for the contract no longer being profitable? The field supervisors, who then passes this on to the field investigators. The rank and file see this CONSTANT capitulation. It does not instill confidence in leadership. Out of date technology, Not given the tools to do the job: In order to get an answer to a question you must go to this website. In order to submit your time sheet, another website. Trying to submit your expense report, that is on this website. Trying to check out material, yet another website. Need to fax something? You are either going to Kinkos, or using the fax machine that YOU BOUGHT. Driving your car for this job is all well and good. You get paid mileage for it, and that is nice. But it is the most important tool you have! A fleet car program shows investigators that the company is invested in you... which CACI is not. Other companies provided cell phones that could be used for personal use. Sure this was a little weird as you had to be constantly vigilant about content friends send you by text, but it was $100 per month that YOU did not have to spend out of your own pocket. CACI restricts your work phone.
