I applied online. I interviewed at Mass Vision (Quincy, MA) in Apr 2016
Interview
1. I walked into the sketchy office above a pest control store for my second interview (1pm-8pm). They were playing David Guetta club music and I was told to fill out paperwork. I briefly looked over the paperwork, which strangely said that I could not sue for compensation during the "observational interview". I thought that was odd, but I signed it anyways.
2. Me and another girl were called into an office and met a guy (the interviewer) named Jonathan (John). He was friendly and young--we'd be shadowing him for that day.
3. The interviewer told us to go outside, which I found odd because I was under the impression that the observational interview would be held inside considering nothing mentioned being outside or bringing a jacket in the invitation email.
4. We stepped outside and the interviewer asked us for our resumes and asked what schools we attend and what our majors are. I found that strange because the interviewer should be aware of the people he is bringing in to interview, and the position was advertised to be for marketing/PR. The girl I was with was an accounting major...
5. The interviewer then proceeded to tell us that "our ride" is here and that we'd be doing "direct marketing", which I know is tailoring advertising and making it more personal to connect with the client. I go to one of the top communications schools in the US...I know what marketing is. He said we'd be meeting some clients with him during our interview to talk about Direct Energy.
6. I was excited to watch him interact with clients. We got into the uber he called and we went to the middle of nowhere in Quincy. We got out outside of an energy company and I thought we'd be going there to watch the interviewer negotiate something between the energy companies. I was wrong.
7. We were going door-to-door ringing people's doorbells and knocking on people's doors in order to sell a scam. He was saying he's helping lower people's NationalGrid bills, but intentionally switched their energy company to Direct Energy. A lot of people didn't speak English and were coerced into switching because they didn't fully understand what they were getting into.
8. The whole interview was us walking back and forth around Quincy and ringing door bells 1pm until 8 pm. It was ridiculous. Nobody warned us to wear comfortable shoes--I was lucky to bring my coat and wear flats. A lot of girls wore heels....I don't know how they walked up and down people's steps for 8 hours.
9. If I could sue for compensation I would. It's a PYRAMID scheme. DON'T do it.
10. We got back to the office at 8:30--and were told to fill out an "exam" asking why ringing people's door bells is so important. It was B.S., they just worded it professionally to con people.
11. After I filled out the exam, I handed it in at 8:40 pm and was waiting along with the others to go in for the final interview part. It wasn't even worth waiting. I made an excuse and took a fake phone call and ran out of that office as fast as I could. Such a waste of time. All I got out of it was blisters.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
If someone came into your office consistently late (and you were the CEO), what would you do?
....fire them...if you take your CEO position seriously. The interviewer didn't seem to find that to be a good answer. Every question he asked was B.S. and at some point I stopped caring about even getting the job because why would I use my $70,000 education to ring people's door bells. I don't need a college degree for that.
