Excellent Team

Pros

I have been working for 318 for about two years, and the thing that stands out the most to me is the quality of the team that surrounds me. There are clearly strong friendships at all levels of the staff, and it's reflected in the work. It is also one of the few places that you can find the highest levels of expertise on the Mac, PC, storage, and networking sides of the field in the same organization. From a team member standpoint that really puts you on solid footing with the confidence you need to finish projects and follow through with that team, as well as learn from them. The culture also encourages strong and straightforward communication of both accolades and concerns, which I find very refreshing.

Cons

As with any consultancy, the demand can be strong at times, and it becomes important to develop the necessary skills to handle those trials. Gaining a strong understanding of tools, systems, and your peers early on can help to ease that. I also think that continuing to develop and define the system of routes to resolution with any kind of staff concern would help to improve the speed with which those concerns can be resolved. In my personal experience, the open door policy of a small business has honestly been wonderful, but I think that for different personality types a more clearly defined system would be helpful and comforting.

A Place to Grow

Pros

318 offers anyone who's ready to learn new things a place to grow and do something different. You can dive deep into a platform (Mac, Windows, UNIX, networking, storage, development, cloud services) and become an expert. I've learned more here in just a few years than 10 years at my old job. But everyone is encouraged to become expert at customer and consulting services. Things aren't always easy and working here will definitely push you out of your comfort zone. I'm glad I took a risk and decided to try something different. My katana is sharper for doing so. My co-workers are some of the smartest in the business.

Cons

Your first weeks or months can feel like trial by fire. Onboarding is fast with little guidance beyond using internal systems. Operational procedures sometimes change on whim.

Great People

Pros

You will be technically challenged and get to learn some really cool technology. Our clients are awesome... I've seen clients "let go" because they were disrespectful or a negative impact to our staff. Company is respectful of your life circumstances - if you want to travel, you can go on the road, if you don't or can't, you won't. People here are definitely the highlight - there are so many varied skillsets and personality types, it is always fun coming to work and you will learn from your coworkers. There isn't a person here I don't personally enjoy spending time with and learning from. That being said, they do expect excellence. This is not the place for you if you are going to habitually show up late or call in "sick". Having a team of such high-level, responsible consultants means that the staff and the company expect the same in return from you. Benefits are good and the office is well stocked.

Cons

This is a smaller company - if you are used to coming from a large corporation there will be a culture shock. You will regularly interact with the CEO, which his not a con in itself, just a difference from a larger company where there are several managers between you and the ownership. Being a small company, HR is always going to be a little bit more difficult since there isn't a dedicated person or department, but I have never been paid late or had any issues that could not be resolved by directly speaking with the CEO.
